ADMISSION PROCEDURE

For your admission to the National University of Mongolia (NUM), you should get in touch with the Student Affairs Office. It is the office for international applicants providing ongoing support to your admission and graduation processes. You can get information related to your application, admission procedure, fees, accommodation, visa, greeting service and medical insurance.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Educational background – international applicants who are interested in pursuing degree programs at the NUM should have acquired previous educational background equivalent to standards of Mongolia. It is not required from international applicants who wish to attend a Mongolian language program, but students shall be at least 18 years old and be fully liable for legality.

Application checklist:

Remember to complete the online application and upload all other necessary documents by the deadline. Those items are:

  • Complete application form
  • Complete medical form
  • HIV test (for last three months)
  • 2 copies of valid passport (valid for 5 years)
  • 2 copies of Diploma or certificate of previous study and transcripts (for graduate students, submit copies of both bachelor and master diplomas with transcripts)
  • Three passport sized photos (3*4)
  • Application fee – 50 USD (non-refundable) exchange and government funded students are exempt from the application fee.
  • Visa fee – 3 USD

Announcement of result:

For Mongolian language preparation, you can be accepted upon submission of your documents to the Student Affairs Office via email studentaffairs@num.edu.mn.

For degree seeking courses including Bachelor, Master and Doctorate courses, you should pass Mongolian language and professional exams. If you have the Mongolian language certificate, you are exempt from the language exam.

Visa

Students must obtain “S” visa to enter Mongolia. After receiving the letter of acceptance from NUM, visa procedure to obtain visa shall begin. The host university will send an invitation letter to the nearest embassy in your homeland. Students do not need to submit an additional document as you have already sent required documents along with application documents. When your invitation is ready, the host university will send the visa code to you via email address.

Health service and insurance

For international students, it is advised to have a full medical check-up before arriving in Mongolia. In addition, it is needed to have accident and health insurance during your stay in Mongolia. If you have health insurance from the district insurance authority, you will have free emergency service, medical check-up and treatment at district hospitals and if necessary at specialized hospitals of Mongolia.

The NUM has six dormitories:

  • One dormitory for international students and scholars

Capacity: 160 people

  • 5 dormitories for Mongolian students. Capacity 1600 people.

PROCEDURES FOR IMMIGRATION SERVICES AND VISA

All international students must report your arrival to the Mongolian Immigration Office. The whole procedure to obtain your residence permit might take a couple of weeks. We strongly advise you not to postpone this administrative step.

OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FINE UP TO 1 MILLION MNT!

In order to enter Mongolia as a student or researcher, you should follow the next steps:

  1. Prior to your arrival in Mongolia, you should apply for “S” visa. You can take this as your permission or invitation to enter Mongolia. If you enter Mongolia with other type of visa, it is impossible to change it in Mongolia, which means you have to return to your homeland to get a valid visa to pursue studies.

  2. After arriving in Mongolia you will need to get the permission to reside as a student or researcher.

  • Temporary registration at immigration within 7 working days upon arrival

  • Application for residence permit within 21 days upon arrival

Residence permission extension

Visit Student Affairs Office (200,216) in person and bring the following documents:

  1. Original passport
  2. 2 passport copies
  3. HIV test
  4. Khoroo reference
  5. Fee 35.000 MNT

Residence permission extension

Visit Student Affairs Office (200,216) at least month before your residence permit expires in person and bring the following documents:

  1. Official transcript (proof that you are currently attending NUM)
  2. Original passport
  3. Original residence permit card
  4. 1 photo
  5. 2 passport copies
  6. HIV test
  7. Khoroo reference
  8. Fee 45.000 MNT

Transfer from other institutions in Mongolia to NUM

First you should enroll NUM and then change your residence permission card. Visit Student Affairs Office (200,216) in person and bring the following documents:

  1. Confirmation letter /to prove you are studying or enrolled at NUM/
  2. Official letter from your previous institution to the Immigration Office
  3. Official passport
  4. Original residence permission card
  5. 1 photo
  6. 2 passport copies
  7. HIV test
  8. Khoroo reference
  9. Fee 45.000 MNT

Exit-Entry Visa

When you plan to visit your homeland during holidays for family matters or other reasons, you should get a “single” exit entry visa before you leave the country. Visit Student Affairs Office (200,216) at least 2 weeks before your departure in person and bring the following documents:

  1. Original passport
  2. Temporary leave permission from your department

Only PhD students can get multiple exit-entry visa.
